Trinity Western Beats McMaster to Win CIS Men's Volleyball Championship

Trinity Western wins CIS championship

HAMILTON - Ryan Sclater had 20 kills to lead the Trinity Western Spartans past the McMaster Marauders 3-1 on Saturday to win the Canadian Interuniversity Sport men's volleyball championship.

Blake Scheerhoorn added 15 kills and three service aces for the Spartans, who took the match 19-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-16. Scheerhoorn was also named the tournament's MVP.

It was Trinity Western's fourth CIS title.

"I'm proud of these guys," said Spartans head coach Ben Josephson. "They worked so hard in the last few weeks when we thought we were out and we rallied together and played like every loss would be the last day of our season.

"To show that much resiliency is something to be proud of."

Trinity Western was in danger of missing the Canada West playoffs after sitting at 9-9 in late January. …
