Murder trial hears about fingerprint

EDMONTON - The trial of a man accused of killing two Alberta seniors in 2010 has heard testimony about a key piece of evidence in the case against Travis Vader.

The can of Boxer beer was found inside an SUV belonging to Lyle and Marie McCann, a couple in their late 70s who vanished while driving from the Edmonton area toward British Columbia.

On Friday, RCMP Sgt. Mike Donnelly testified a partial fingerprint found on that beer can was compared to 10 million others in a national database and came back as a match to Vader, who is on trial for first-degree murder.

During cross-examination, defence lawyer Brian Beresh suggested the print might have gotten on the can before the McCanns disappeared. …
