MOFA Still Optimistic about Participation at World Health Assembly

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) on Tuesday said the ministry is still optimistic that they will receive an invitation to this month's World Health Assembly (WHA) in time for a Taiwanese delegation to attend.

MOFA spokeswoman Eleanor Wang told local media that the government is in close contact with the World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General office and WHO's legal advisors to push for the swift issuance of the invitation to Taiwan.

The WHO has so far responded by saying that the invitation is still being processed, she added.

Wang refuted media reports that Taiwan may not be able to participate in this year's assembly if it does not receive an invitation by May 9, the WHA's online registration deadline. …
