Albany beats Toronto to take Game 1

TORONTO - The Albany Devils have taken Game 1 and home-ice advantage from the Toronto Marlies.

Matt Lorito's goal at 10:41 of the first period stood up as the winner as Albany beat Toronto 2-1 on Wednesday to open up their second-round series.

Toronto hosts Game 2 on Friday before the series shifts to Albany for Games 3, 4 and 5. The best-of-seven set is a 2-3-2 format, leaving the Devils in a great situation.

The Marlies were forced to play without forwards William Nylander and Nikita Soshnikov and defenceman Andrew Campbell because of undisclosed injuries and may have to add forward Tobias Lindberg to the list of banged-up players.
