6 Taiwanese Arrested in Japan over Alleged Drug Trafficking: Office

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Six R.O.C. citizens were arrested in Japan last week on drug trafficking charges after they were allegedly found carrying 600 kilograms of amphetamine on their sailboat, Taiwan's representative office in Japan confirmed on Thursday.

Taiwan's representative office in Naha, Okinawa confirmed to local media that the six Taiwanese, aged between 30 to 50, were arrested on their power sailboat soon after the vessel docked at Naha harbor on May 11

It is reportedly the biggest illicit drug bust in Naha's history.

Some of the alleged traffickers have already confessed to the charges while others deny involvement, a representative of the office told the Chinese-language Apple Daily.

The Naha office has contacted family members of the suspects and provided them with a list of lawyers they can hire to help them face legal proceedings, an official told the newspaper. …
