TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Over ten thousand chickens were slaughtered in Yunlin County, revealed the Council of Agriculture (COA) on Thursday, after reports of increases in the highly pathogenic avian influenza were recorded at Taiwan farms in recent weeks.

According to the latest data from the COA's Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine (BAPHIQ, [...]), the outbreak at a chicken farm in Taisi Township, Yunlin County suggests that this year's avian flu situation is similar to that of last year, when what is typically a wintertime virus continued into the summer, reported the Central News Agency.
