TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Zongzi were among 15 Dragon Boat Festival foods that failed to meet health standards, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA, [...]) announced Monday, with most of the products bearing excessive traces of E. coli.

The tainted sticky rice dumplings were found at wholesale retailers Carrefour ([...]), A.mart ([...]) and Save & Safe ([...]), and the producers have been asked to recall their products, according to the FDA.

Local health authorities last week assisted in the Ministry of Health and Welfare's inspection of 851 Dragon Boat Festival favorites from large wholesalers, traditional markets, small restaurants and zongzi vendors.

Taichung saw the most penalties for unsafe products, including for the Shihmen Farmers' Association's traditional meat zongzi sold at Carrefour's Wenxin store and for the sesame oil chicken zongzi offered at the city's Save & Safe branch. …
