Kevin Hardcastle, Soraya Peerbaye win Trillium Book Awards

TORONTO - Toronto authors Kevin Hardcastle and Soraya Peerbaye are the English-language winners of the 2016 Trillium Book Award honouring Ontario-based writers.

Hardcastle was awarded the prize in the book category for his debut short story collection "Debris'' (Biblioasis), about the lives of those existing on the fringes of society. He was recently shortlisted for the Danuta Gleed Literary Award for short fiction.

Peerbaye received the poetry prize for her collection "Tell: poems for a girlhood'' (Pedlar Press), which was based on the case of slain Vancouver Island teen Reena Virk. Peerbaye was also a finalist for this year's Griffin Poetry Prize.

The French-language book prize was awarded to Veronique-Marie Kaye for "Marjorie Chalifoux" (Editions Prise de parole) with David Menard receiving the poetry prize for "Neuvaines" (Les Editions L'Interligne. …
