Three wildfires burning in Nova Scotia

Crews were battling several wildfires in wooded areas throughout the Nova Scotia on Tuesday, the provincial government said.

The province said the largest was burning in Fenwick, just south of Amherst, and was approximately 12 hectares in size.

Spokesman Brian Taylor said that fire was contained and more than 50 crew members were working to extinguish the blaze Tuesday afternoon.

Taylor said another fire, one hectare in size, was burning in Lunenburg County, but it was also contained.

As well, crews were setting up sprinklers to deal with a blaze burning over half a hectare in Clarksville, roughly 30 kilometres northeast of Windsor.

Natural Resources Minister Lloyd Hines said wildfires are not unusual in the province -- as Nova Scotia can experience up to 300 a year -- but having multiple fires spread out over a distance can be challenging. …
