Final Test Could Flush Saskatoon Drinking Water Advisory as Early as Today

Water advisory a drain on Saskatoon residents

SASKATOON - About 30,000 people in Saskatoon hoped to hear Thursday that they no longer have to boil their tap water or use bottled water for drinking or cooking because of a water main break earlier this week.

The residents of six northeast neighbourhoods have been under a precautionary drinking water advisory since Monday afternoon when a SaskPower contractor accidentally punctured a large main.

Two sets of water samples have to be confirmed free of any potential contamination before the advisory can be lifted.

Trent Schmidt, the city's acting public works director, says the initial results look good but one test remains and the results won't be known until late Thursday afternoon at the earliest. …
