Jamie Kompon named Jets assistant coach

WINNIPEG - Jamie Kompon was named an assistant coach for the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday, joining Charlie Huddy, goaltender coach Wade Flaherty and video coach Matt Prefontaine on head coach Paul Maurice's staff.

Kompon, who was born in Thunder Bay, Ont., comes to the Jets after serving as head coach and general manager of the Western Hockey League's Portland Winterhawks for the past two seasons. He led Portland to a 77-54-13 record over that time, taking the team to the playoffs in both seasons including a trip to the Western Conference Final in 2015.

Kompon, 49, has extensive experience as an NHL assistant coach including six seasons with the Los Angeles Kings from 2006-11 and two seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks from 2012-14. Kompon won the Stanley Cup in consecutive seasons, in 2012 with Los Angeles and 2013 with Chicago. …
