Tuition going up at Regina university

REGINA - Tuition costs at the University of Regina are on the rise.

In order to maintain a balanced budget, the university says it will increase tuition by 3.8 per cent next year.

Provost Thomas Chase says for a first-year student doing a full load of courses in the faculty of arts, that's about $112 more.

Tuition costs have been rising since the university's tuition freeze ended in 2008.

Chase says the institution is still roughly in the top third of Canadian universities in terms of affordability.

Students' Union president Jermain McKenzie says it all makes it tougher for students, who also have to contend with rising costs for living, food and other expenses.

"Students are suffering from mental health issues," McKenzie adds. …
