China Airlines Announces New Sensor System for Monitoring Global Warming and Air Pollution

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- China Airlines (CAL) announced the acquisition of a monitoring sensor for the purposes of providing data on global warming and air pollution in the Asia region and began operations on July 7.

The monitoring sensor offers data on global warming and climate change for science organizations around the world by collecting data on the upper atmosphere using external sensors, sending data through a satellite to a European research center, CAL announced. The monitoring sensor, an In-service Aircraft for a Global Observing System (IAGOS), is installed on an Airbus A330-300 that has a monitoring range covering Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii.

The monitoring sensors are part of the Pacific Greenhouse Gases Measurement (PGGM) plan, a collaboration between CAL, the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) and the National Central University (NCU). …
