Woman out tubing hit by drunk boater

PINAWA, Man. - A boating crash that left a Manitoba tuber seriously injured this weekend is shining the spotlight on impaired boating and water safety.

A 24-year-old woman from Nutimik Lake was in Whiteshell Provincial Park when she was airlifted to hospital in Winnipeg.

RCMP say the woman was tubing when she fell in water and was hit by another boat, leaving her with serious injuries.

Police say the person who hit her kept going, and had been drinking.

"That's pretty crazy you wouldn't stop to help somebody," said boater Denis Fortin.

He said when out on water he and his children always wear lifejackets with whistles, carry a cell phone and keep a close eye on tubers in and out of the water. …
