VANCOUVER MAYOR WELCOMES FOREIGN HOUSING TAX

Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson says he welcomes the province's move to bring in an additional 15 per cent property transfer tax on foreign purchases of real estate in the city.

Robertson says he's been calling on the province for over a year to take action on the city's overheated housing market and to address the impact of what he calls unregulated, speculative global capital.

He also urged the province to commit to investing in creating new low- and middle-income housing in Vancouver and throughout B.C.
