Taiwanfest to Celebrate Taiwanese Culture and Community in Canada

Taiwanfest, an annual event that highlights Taiwan's arts and culture in Canada, will soon be held in Toronto and Vancouver to promote Taiwanese culture and celebrate Canada's multiculturalism, event organizers announced in Taipei on Friday.

Charlie Wu, managing director of the Asian Canadian Special Events Association (ACSEA), told a press conference at the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei (CTOT) that the annual event, held since 1990, was originally established by Vancouver's Taiwanese community as an indoor concert for Taiwanese composers.

Over the years, the event has gradually turned into one of the largest cultural events in Canada, he said.

Despite being a relatively small community, Taiwanfest prides itself on thinking big for the future of Canadian diversity.

"Taiwanfest has taken the role of advocating for cultural communities and building communities through arts and culture," he said.

This year's festival will kick off at Toronto's Harbourfront Center on Aug. …
