TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Chou Lien-hua ([...]), who had served as pastor to Chiang Kai-shek, passed away Saturday afternoon from heart failure at the age of 96, the Central News Agency reported.

Chou, chief pastor at the Grace Baptist Church, was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m., Saturday by Chen Hsin General Hospital.

Physicians had administered emergency treatment for an hour prior to his death.

He had been rushed to the hospital at 5:20 p.m. after suffering a heart distress when returning home from a gathering on Yangming Mountain.

Hospital personnel said that when Chou was sent to the hospital, he already lost vital signs of life, and the hospital issued a certificate showing the cause of Chou's death is "heart failure."

Pastor Chou Tzong-lun, chairman of the Chinese Baptist Convention, also confirmed Chou's peaceful death when meeting the press, adding that the convention would help with funeral arrangements. …
