Loan Shark Ring Busted in Miaoli: Detective Agency

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A Northern Taiwan-based loan shark ring run by a naturalized citizen who allegedly forced Vietnamese to work as prostitutes to pay her debts was busted earlier this month, announced the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB, [...]).

In a statement, the CIB said the chief suspect surnamed Liang ([...]) - originally a Vietnamese national before she married a Taiwanese husband and was naturalized as an R.O.C. citizen - had been operating a number of Vietnamese massage parlors, karaoke clubs and brothels in northern Taoyuan, Hsinchu and Miaoli cities and counties.

Liang also allegedly operated a loan shark ring that gave loans to Vietnamese spouses at extremely high interest rates, the CIB said.

According to the CIB, Liang used violence to collect debts from those who had borrowed money from her. …
