Manitoba Government Hints at Possible Expansion of Sunday Shopping

Manitoba may get more Sunday shopping

WINNIPEG - The Manitoba government appears open to at least discussing the idea of allowing Sunday shopping beyond 6 p.m.

Business groups have long pushed for the rights of retailers to set their own hours.

Cliff Cullen, minister for growth, enterprise and trade, said Monday he is willing to listen.

"While we are not considering making changes to the Retail Businesses Holiday Closing Act at this time, we remain open to the input of Manitobans," Cullen said in a written statement.

Any changes would have to go through the Labour Management Review Committee, the same advisory body that recommended the last expansion of Sunday shopping in 2012, Cullen added.
