More time needed to review psychiatric report

SASKATOON - Lawyers are getting more time to review the psychiatric assessment of a teenage girl charged with second-degree murder in the killing of a six-week-old boy in Saskatoon.

The 16-year-old appeared briefly via video link in provincial court where the case was put over to Sept. 21.

The teen, whose name is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged last month after police were called to a Saskatoon home.

Nikosis Jace Cantre was found with serious injuries and died in hospital.

Justice officials said shortly after the arrest that the teen had escaped a youth centre, where she was serving a 10-month open custody sentence for several offences, including assault with a weapon.

The baby's family has said they did not know the girl and had brought her to their home when they found her downtown with no where to go. …
