CROWN WANTS FATHER WHO KILLED KIDS TO BE DESIGNATED 'HIGH-RISK ACCUSED'

A lawyer for a mentally ill man who killed his three children has told a B.C. Supreme Court judge that the man's psychiatrists will recommend against allowing him on escorted outings when his annual review comes up this month.

Allan Schoenborn was granted the potential for limited freedom at last year's B.C. Review Board hearing, but his lawyer says the head of the Vancouver-area psychiatric facility where he lives has never approved any outings.

The news came at the start of a hearing today to decide whether strict new controls should be placed on Schoenborn, who was found not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder for the slayings of his children eight years ago.

Crown lawyers are seeking to have him designated a "high-risk accused," a controversial label that was created by the former Conservative government.

TRIAL DELAYED FOR DUTCH MAN ACCUSED IN AMANDA TODD CASE

A trial involving the man implicated in the suicide of B.C. teen Amanda Todd has been delayed again.

Aydin Coban faces charges in the Netherlands including child pornography and extortion allegedly involving 39 people, but Dutch officials say the case will not go to trial until after the summer.

Coban also faces extradition to Canada on five charges connected to Todd, who killed herself in 2012 after being bullied over nude photos posted through social media by an online harasser.

It's uncertain how the delay will affect the extradition hearing, which had been scheduled to begin June 14.

BOY KILLED WHEN VEHICLE BACKED INTO HIM

The BC Coroners Service says an investigation is continuing into the death of a two-year-old boy near Kamloops.

Officials say Jesse Derek Willer died on April 16 after being struck by a vehicle that was backing up on private property.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. …
