Keelung's Cheng Huang Festival Set for Mid-Sept

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The three-day Keelung Cheng Huang Gold Culture Festival will kick off on Sept. 14.

The city government and Hu-Guo Cheng Huang Temple in the northern city recently held a warm-up press conference to build public interest in the upcoming festival, according to a press statement issued by the city government.

At the conference, Keelung Mayor Lin You-chang passed a flag to Chang Pi-yu, chairwoman of the Keelung temple, authorizing the temple to organize the festival activities.

"This is an important annual event for Keelung City and residents, especially because the Hu-Guo Cheng Huang Temple will celebrate the 200th anniversary of its founding in the coming year," Lin said at the conference.

"Cheng Huang God, a deity in Chinese Taoist mythology, is considered to be a fair and selfless god of justice, with its status virtually the same as a city mayor. …
