KMT 'Unable to Pay Salaries' Following Freezing of Assets

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The opposition Kuomintang (KMT) told party staff Thursday that they would not receive this month's salaries as scheduled, after the current administration ordered a freeze on the party's bank account as part of an investigation into ill-gotten party assets.

The KMT issued an urgent notice to all party workers Thursday night, promising to seek out funding to jointly pay employees their salaries for October and September.

"Because (KMT) funds have been frozen by the Ill-gotten Party Assets Settlement Committee, September salaries cannot be paid to party workers as planned. Besides taking the judicial route to protect the right of fellow colleagues, the party will also try to raise funds through as many ways as possible," the statement said. …
