WHL Roundup: Rebels beat Warriors in OT

MOOSE JAW, Sask. - Evan Polei scored 1:09 into overtime as the Red Deer Rebels came from behind to defeat the host Moose Jaw Warriors 4-3 on Friday in Western Hockey League action.

Josh Mahura and D-Jay Jerome scored in the third period for the Rebels (1-0-2), who erased a 3-1 deficit. Jeff de Wit found the back of the net in the first period.

Noah Gregor, Brett Howden and Jett Woo gave the Warriors (1-0-1) a two-goal lead after 40 minutes.

Red Deer's Riley Lamb made 33 saves for the win as Zach Sawchenko kicked out 17-of-21 shots for Moose Jaw.

The Rebels went 1 for 2 on the power play while the Warriors failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.

HURRICANES 5 ICE 4

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. -- Jesse Zaharichuk had a goal and three helpers, including one on Ryley Lindgren's winner at 18:47 of the third, as the Hurricanes edged Kootenay.

Egor Babenko, Jordy Bellerive and Brennan Menell also scored for Lethbridge (2-1-0). Stuart Skinner made 25 saves for the win.

Barrett Sheen had a pair of goals for the Ice (0-1-2), who also got goals from Kaeden Taphorn and Zak Zborosky. Payton Lee turned away 41-of-46 shots in a losing cause.

TIGERS 5 BLADES 1

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. -- Nick Schneider made 23 saves and the Tigers used a balanced offence to beat Saskatoon.

Kristians Rubins, Ryan Chyzowski, Ryan Jevne, Matt Bradley and Mark Rassell supplied the scoring for Medicine Hat (2-1-0).

Mason McCarty was the only Blades (1-2-0) skater to beat Schneider. Logan Flodell kicked out 40-of-45 in a losing effort.

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. -- Brad Morrison struck twice as the Cougars downed Kelowna to remain undefeated to start the season.

Yan Khomenko and Shane Collins also scored for Prince George (5-0-0) as Ty Edmonds made 15 saves for the win.
