Economic Ministry Endorses FCFC in Changhua Gov't Case

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Economic Minister on Monday said that the Formosa Chemicals and Fibre Corporation's (FCFC) operations abide by the law after the Changhua County Government rejected the company's application to operate 34 times.

Economic Minister Lee Chih-kung ([...])said that the FCFC operates according to the Changhua County Government's environmental protection laws, which are some of the strictest in the nation.

"Nobody would like to see such a factory be shut down," Lee said on Monday morning.

"Both the Economic Ministry and the Environmental Protection Administration take the issue very seriously, and are coordinating between the FCFC and the Changhua County Government, and hopefully will reach a mutual consensus soon," Lee said.

The FCFC's Changhua factory applied for a license to operate three of its boilers, which are crucial for its combined heat and power (CHP) operations. …
