OTTAWA - Derek Wendel broke the game open with a 49-yard touchdown pass to Mitchell Baines and the Ottawa Gee-Gees rebounded from their Panda Game loss with a 54-20 rout of the York Lions on Friday night in CIS football action.

It was the first of two TDs caught by Baines, who finished with 11 receptions for 215 yards.

Wendel finished the game 31-of-42 passing for 514 yards and three touchdowns -- including another to Thomas Hoyt -- and a rushing TD for the No. 9 Gee-Gees (5-1).

Greg Cherniak led the attack on the ground with 13 carries for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Mathieu Tremblay also ran in a TD.

Brett Hunchak completed 26-of-40 passes for 329 yards and two touchdowns for York (2-4).

Lewis Ward kicked a field goal for Ottawa while Nick Naylor was 2 for 3 on his field-goal attempts for the Lions. …
