43 Victims of Cheap iPhone 7 Scams: CIB

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB, [...]) has recently warned nationals of rampant iPhone 7 fraud as a total of 43 people fell victim to such a scheme, when they thought they had found a bargain but were actually scammed.

In a statement, the CIB said many iPhone lovers have been looking forward to buying the latest iPhone 7 models since the phones became available island-wide on Sept. 16.

Many potential iPhone 7 buyers were looking for the best bargains online, leading to fraudsters taking advantage of this rare opportunity, CIB said.

One of the victims was a woman, surnamed Lee ([...]). The Changhua resident recently posted on Taiwan's largest bulletin board system, PTT, asking if someone could sell her an iPhone 7.

A self-proclaimed "vendor" later messaged her and asked her to wire money to their account. …
