Seven counselors from the Veterans Affairs Council (VAC, [...]) who campaigned on behalf of the Kuomintang (KMT) have been fired for breaching neutrality rules.

VAC Minister Lee Shying-jow ([...]) informed Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lawmakers of the dismissals during a meeting Friday.

DPP Legislator Chih-cheng ([...]) later told local media that the seven had been found to have campaigned for the KMT during this year's legislative and presidential elections.

The decision to dismiss the seven contract workers was made after DPP lawmakers raised the political activity of the counselors with the VAC, Lo said.

He said the VAC was "doing the right thing" in taking action, describing the counselors' close ties with the KMT as "extremely inappropriate" and a "serious violation of neutrality. …
