NDP Wants Limits on Donations to Political Parties in Saskatchewan

NDP wants donations limited to political parties

REGINA - The Saskatchewan NDP is proposing new legislation to limit donations to political parties.

Opposition critic David Forbes says the proposed law would cap donations from Saskatchewan residents at $1,275.

He told the legislature on Monday that right now, there are no limits on corporate and union donations.

Forbes also reminded members that there's no limit on out-of-province donations and from businesses getting government contracts.

Justice Minister Gordon Wyant says the NDP is selling tickets to various party events.

Wyant also says the province has no plans to change the rules.

"Every other jurisdiction in Canada has banned these donations," Forbes said.

The NDP has said the governing Saskatchewan Party has raked in more than $2 million from out-of-province companies, mostly from Alberta. …
