RICHMOND, B.C. x-08s. The Transportation Safety Board wants personal floation devices to be seen as being similar to seatbelts. The board's president, Kathy Fox, says there was a time when it was O-K to drive a car without a seatbelt, and that regulations helped turn the practice into something widely considered a good idea, regardless of the law. She says Transport Canada should make it mandatory for people in the commercial fishing industry to wear life vests while on deck.

TAG: The recommendation comes out of a report into a deadly capsizing from September 2015. Three people died when the Caledonian sank off the west coast of Vancouver Island. The T-S-B report says the only person to survive was also the only one wearing a life vest. …
