NAT136 - (Moose-Rescue-Peta) WASHINGTON. x-11s. New Brunswick firefighters who freed a female moose from the frozen Shediac River last weekend are getting an award. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is sending a Compassionate Fire Department Award to the Shediac Fire Department. PETA vice-president Colleen O'Brien says she hopes the story will inspire people to come to the aid of wildlife in need. ("..their aid.") (SOURCE:The Canadian Press)

TAG: Firefighter Jos LeBlanc recorded a video of the rescue. He says the moose first appeared agitated by the axe-swinging firefighters, but soon calmed down. They smashed a path to the shore, where the animal ran into the woods.
