KAMLOOPS. x-06s. A young bald eagle that was saved by rescuers using the uniquely Canadian lure of salmon on a hockey stick is doing well after emergency treatment. Corporal Thomas Blakney says the bird, dubbed Illy, was spotted near Revelstoke, starving and with an apparently broken wing. Blakney helped in the capture and also drove what he thought was the female bird to Kamloops for a life-saving blood transfusion. He's delighted to learn Illy is doing well.

TAG: Illy is actually a juvenile male and technicians who treated the bird say it could be released within a few weeks, if it continues to improve.
