NAT151 - (Canada-Insurable-Damage) (EXTENDED) CALGARY. x-35s. The Insurance Bureau of Canada says wildfires in Fort McMurray, Alberta and flooding in Atlantic Canada drove insurable damages to a record 4.9 billion dollars in 2016. That's about 1.7 billion higher than the previous record of 3.2 billion set in 2013. Insurance bureau C-E-O Don Forgeron says the trend in Canada is clearly toward worse damage in future due to severe weather linked to climate change. ("..to be worsening.")
