(CRIME-Travis-Vader) (Alta Note)

An Alberta man whose parents remain missing six years after they disappeared has made a demand of the man convicted of killing them.

Bret McCann -- speaking after the first day of Travis Vader's sentencing hearing -- said he wants Vader to reveal where their bodies are.

Vader was found guilty in September of second-degree murder in the deaths of Lyle and Marie McCann, who were in their late 70's.

The verdict was revised to manslaughter after the judge admitted he erred in using an outdated section of the Criminal Code in his reasoning. (The Canadian Press)



SaskTel says it could end up being the only major regional player in Western Canada if Bell Media's proposed 3.9 billion-dollar takeover of Manitoba Telecom Services goes through.

Saskatchewan's provincially owned telecommunications company says it would be surrounded by two of the large national players -- Telus to the west and B-C-E to the east.

A report from SaskTel says the deal presents regulatory, competitive and financial risks, but adds most of those risks existed before the deal and have already been assessed.

The report says establishing Winnipeg as a western headquarters for Bell could erode SaskTel's share of the Saskatchewan business market. (The Canadian Press)


(Ebola-Exposure) (Mba Note)

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says a Winnipeg lab worker who was potentially exposed to the Ebola virus has not shown any symptoms since it happened.

The researcher -- who was given a vaccine and put into isolation for 21 days -- has now been cleared to return to work.

The man was working with infected pigs at the National Centre for Foreign Animal Disease early last month when he noticed a rip in his protective suit.

The agency says the lab meets international standards but it has tightened rules around protective suits and enhanced training for employees. …
