REGINA - The Regina health region says elective surgeries will resume Thursday at Pasqua Hospital after a ventilation failure caused dozens to be cancelled.

On Monday afternoon, the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region discovered a fan-belt failure was causing small particles of debris to circulate and blow into the hospital's medical equipment sterilization area.

Sharon Garratt, the region's vice-president Integrated Health Services, says elective surgeries scheduled for Wednesday have been postponed, but procedures will go ahead.

She says elective surgeries are expected to resume on Thursday.

Garratt says 60 surgeries and 25 procedures have been postponed due to the fan failure.

They were all elective, and involved orthopedics, urology, ophthalmology, plastic surgery and general surgery patients and no emergency surgery cases needed transfer to Regina General hospital. …
