UNITED'S link with Benfica defender Victor Lindelof is strengthening.

The 22-year-old is reported to be on manager Jose Mourinho's radar to bolster a Reds defence hit by injuries to Eric Bailly - who is due back next month but then is set to be on African Cup duty for the Ivory Coast in the New Year - and Chris Smalling. United are reported to have had scouts watching the Swedish international, who can also play right back, and the player's agent has fuelled the fire.

"I don't want to comment on various clubs but there is concrete interest from some of the biggest in Europe," said Lindelof's agent and retired Swedish player, Hasan Cetinkaya.

"'Vigge' really enjoys it at Benfica, at the same time, as I have said before, there is no smoke without fire when it comes to many clubs that are interested in him. …
