PHIL Foden was one of the more surprising names on the City team sheet for their Champions League game with Celtic on Tuesday.

The 16-year-old was on the bench in a youthful squad that also saw Tosin Adarabioyo and Pablo Maffeo start.

Here's a little more on the member of that squad you will probably have heard least about... BACKGROUND Born in Stockport, Foden turned 16 in May and has been part of the Under-18s team this season. He was last seen in a City shirt grabbing the equaliser as City U18s drew with United at the weekend.

The midfielder's talent has long been recognised in the England youth set-up and he is currently part of the Under-17s side - along with a number of his team-mates . STYLE OF PLAY Foden can slot across attacking midfield but is perhaps most comfortable in the No.10 role.

He enjoys dictating play, especially further up the pitch, and has a handy knack for knowing where both the goal and his teammates are. Blessed with great dribbling ability and control, City have been careful to protect him in his development. …
