Giles Blasts Pep for Playing Bravo as Sweeper Keeper

MANCHESTER City boss Pep Guardiola has made a "huge mistake" in using Claudio Bravo as a sweeper 'keeper and playing fullbacks in midfield, according to former United midfielder John Giles.

The Chilean, who was brought in for his ball skills, has had a rough introduction to English football since replacing Joe Hart in the summer. Pablo Zabaleta, meanwhile, was used as a central midfielder against Celtic and Leicester - having rarely played in the role since his early days at San Lorenzo more than a decade ago.

And Giles feels that in the "highpressure environment" of the Premier League, Guardiola will not be able to get away with such decisions.

"I'll say it until I'm blue in the face," he wrote for the Herald. "He has made a huge mistake in ploughing ahead with the wild notion that goalkeepers should be able to play on the deck and that full-backs must play as midfielders. …
