JOHN Stones' display in the 4-0 defeat to Everton caused arguments in the Match of the Day studio.

Stones was heavily criticised after his return to Goodison Park saw his side ship four goals in a defeat which Pep Guardiola claims has killed off their title chances.

Though he was not the only City player at fault on the day, his highprofile errors at Leicester City and against Southampton also led to goals and he continues to split opinion over his ball-playing style at centre-back.

And on BBC's Match of the Day, Alan Shearer, Phil Neville and presenter Mark Chapman argued over whether the England defender can be regarded as a top-level player.

Shearer said: "I don't want to criticise him but he is 22 now, he's played nearly 100 Premier League games and everyone keeps saying to me and the rest of the football world that he's going to be a top player. …
