SALFORD expect to be without Ben Murdoch-Masila for around 10 weeks, meaning he will miss the first five matches of the 2017 Betfred Super League season.

Red Devils boss Ian Watson confirmed the forward suffered knee ligament damage in the club's pre-season victory over Rochdale Hornets on Sunday.

Murdoch-Masila - signed from NRL side Penrith Panthers ahead of the 2016 season - lasted just three minutes at the Crown Oil Arena before being struck by the injury.

Despite admitting it will be a blow to be without the New Zealand-born player for an extended period, Watson insists it provides an opportunity for other members of the squad to stake a claim for a spot in the starting line-up.

"It's disappointing to lose Ben at this stage, but we all know we are in a game when this kind of thing happens," said Watson. …
