Henrik Sedin records 1,000th NHL point

VANCOUVER - Henrik Sedin beat a friend and former teammate for the 1,000th point of his NHL career.

The captain of the Vancouver Canucks reached the milestone on Friday night with a goal in the second period against the Florida Panthers.

Sedin took a pass from twin brother Daniel on a 2-on-1 rush and moved in alone before sliding a backhand through Roberto Luongo's five-hole.

The Canucks spilled over the boards to mob the 36-year-old as the crowd at Rogers Arena roared its approval.

Luongo, who played in Vancouver from 2006 to 2014, then stopped Sedin to congratulate him as the Canucks headed off the ice.

Sedin stood near the benches as the raucous applause continued for a few more minutes, clapping his hands over his head in appreciation. …
