(BC-Highway-of-Tears-Bus)

B-C's Minister of Aboriginal Relations John Rustad says the new bus service on B-C's so-called Highway of Tears has been a long time coming.

The service that starts Monday is along a small section of Highway 16 -- the route between Prince George and Prince Rupert where 18 women have disappeared or been murdered since the 1970s -- but it will be expanded.

Rustad says the plan involves working with First Nations communities to train bus drivers and operate transit services between their villages and major communities along the highway.

First Nations, social-service agencies and women's groups have called for a shuttle bus service for years to provide safe transportation for those living in communities along the 750-kilometre route. (The Canadian Press)

(BC-Bloody-Parking-Rage)

Police say a man who ended up seriously injuring himself in a Vancouver Island community last night was likely acting out of frustration over someone else's parking job.

Saanich police say the 37-year-old Esquimalt man had returned to where his vehicle was parked at an arena and found another vehicle parked close to his.

They say the man used a knife to puncture one of the other vehicle's tires and then stabbed himself in the leg, severing an artery.

Acting Sergeant Jereme Leslie says the man tried to drive himself to the hospital but he'd lost so much blood he had to call an ambulance. (The Canadian Press)

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says it's unknown if his death is connected to the murder of a 22-year-old man who was shot in his vehicle in Surrey on Monday. …
