Future Looks Bleak at City for Aguero

Article excerpt

PEP Guardiola dropped Sergio Aguero at the first genuine opportunity - and that must be the fear for City's long-time talisman.

Assurances from both the club and manager regarding his future must also sound hollow right now.

Actions speak louder than words.

And the arrival of a shiny new alternative in the form of Gabriel Jesus has provided Guardiola with the means with which to displace his leading scorer after months of flirtations.

It has been a drawn-out process. Aguero's future has been the source of conjecture right up to the point that the axe fell.

City may be adamant they do not want to sell a player who has only just signed a new contract that runs until 2020.

And the player himself may be committed to a club he has never agitated to leave since his arrival in 2011.

But his current predicament simply cannot be allowed to continue.

Aguero is too good to play second fiddle.

He knows it. City know it.

And so do a host of potential suitors from Europe to China, who will be monitoring his situation intently.

From a player regarded by Manuel Pellegrini as capable of challenging Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the world's finest, to a cameo sub against Swansea.

Aguero is quite possibly the best player in world football not to be guaranteed a starting place at this moment. …
