Public health officials are urging people to check that their vaccinations are up to date as clusters of mumps are investigated in the province.

Seventeen cases of the viral infection have been confirmed in Toronto -- all involving people between 18 and 35 years of age who had frequented west-end bars.

A Toronto Public Health spokeswoman says 60 per cent of the people in those cases were either not immunized or were under-immunized.

Dr. Allison McGeer of Toronto's Mount Sinai Hospital says when the mumps and measles vaccine was introduced, only one dose was administered but it was later determined that two doses were needed for long-term effectiveness. (The Canadian Press)



Three teenagers are facing attempted murder charges following a stabbing in Peterborough.

Police say the three 16-year-old boys were charged after another teen was injured in an incident at a home on Thursday.

Investigators say the alleged victim -- who is also 16 -- knew at least one of the accused.

He was taken by air ambulance to a Toronto hospital where police say he was listed in stable condition. (The Canadian Press)



A 27-year-old Toronto man has been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of second-degree murder in connection with a double shooting in Vaughan.

David Odesho was also handed an eight-year sentence for aggravated assault in connection with the June 2014 shooting that left one man dead and one injured.

York Regional Police say Odesho was found guilty by a jury last week and was sentenced on Thursday.

They say officers who were called to a cafe for reports of shots fired arrived to find two men suffering from gunshot wounds. (The Canadian Press)
