WHEN headteacher Fiona O'Sullivan took on Oasis Academy MediaCity UK, it was the worst performing school in Salford.

Already in special measures, the academy had been criticised for poor standards of teaching, bullying, and weak leadership.

And despite sitting on the edge of a booming commercial and media hub, Oasis Academy still served some of poorest children in Salford.

Undaunted by the task ahead, Fiona vowed to turn the troubled high school around.

And less than three years after taking on the role, Fiona has managed to lead the academy out of special measures to a 'good' Ofsted rating.

It's a remarkable achievement and an example of how it is possible to close the gap in education inequality, as highlighted by Teach First.
