Car Smashes into Home of Woman, 94, 'After Chase'

A 94-YEAR-OLD woman escaped unhurt after a car, believed to have been chased by police, smashed into her house.

The great-grandmother was listening to an audiobook in a rear dining room when the blue Ford Focus careered into the front of her small terraced home.

Relatives said she phoned her daughter and told her that her house was 'exploding.' .

She managed to walk out through a back door and was looked after by neighbours until emergency services arrived. She was taken to hospital at around 2.30pm yesterday for checks, but isn't believed to have been seriously injured.

The crash happened in Alexandra Road, Ashton-under-Lyne.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service sent two fire engines to the scene and a specialist trauma response unit.

Witnesses said the car was being pursued by police and at least one pedestrian was almost hit before the impact, although this hasn't been verified by GMP.

One witness said a man who was driving ran from the scene towards the King George V Playing Fields. …
