CLAYTON * A University City councilman was convicted Tuesday of a third-degree misdemeanor assault charge in connection with a shoving incident that happened at a public hearing a year ago.

A St. Louis County Circuit Court jury deliberated for a little over an hour before finding L. Michael Glickert, 65, guilty of the charge.

Glickert is accused of pushing resident Bart Stewart at a meeting March 22, 2016, to discuss what to do after the existing University City police headquarters was found to pose a health hazard.

The City Council approved the construction of a police station a week later.

The confrontation occurred after Stewart put literature outlining an effort to recall University City Mayor Shelley Welsch and Councilman Stephen Kraft on a table near the front of the meeting room.

Glickert defended his actions. …
