TAMPA, Fla. - Gary Sanchez's poor offensive showing last spring training had cost him a job.

Expected to break camp in 2016 as the Yankees' backup catcher to Brian McCann, Sanchez went 2-for-22 at the plate and didn't get a proper chance to show off his rocket arm.

Everything changed beginning early last August, when Sanchez started a 20-homer tear to finish the year - securing his spot as the Yanks' starting catcher in 2017.

However, "the mentality that I have right now is to work as if I'm not the regular catcher, you know? That's the way that I like to work," said Sanchez, who hit his third home run of the exhibition season in Wednesday's 10-4 win against Team Canada.
