WASHINGTON BLVD. FLOOD VICTIMS REACH SETTLEMENT

Families of the four victims of the deadly 2011 flood on Washington Boulevard have reached settlements with a company that had been tasked with advising officials about how to remedy flooding issues in that area.

Kimberly Griffith, 45, and her two daughters, Brenna, 12, and Mikaela, 8, drown when their car was submerged in the flash flood on Aug. 19, 2011. Mary Saflin, 72, who was walking nearby, was swept away by the water and also died.

Chester Engineers Inc., according to court documents filed Thursday, was supposed to recommend measures to the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority and Allegheny County Sanitary Authority to address the flooding potential on Washington Boulevard.

The company settled with the Griffith family for $625,000 for each victim, totaling $1,875,000. …
