Bar Fight in Clifton Leads to Review for Passaic Firefighter

PASSAIC -- A city firefighter has been placed on unpaid administrative leave after an incident at a Clifton bar sparked a personnel review by city officials.

The firefighter, Gary Delgado, has been on leave since late January, shortly after the Clifton police responded to a call from an employee at Emerald Corner tavern on Oak Street, near the Passaic border, at 11:50 p.m. Jan. 21, saying there was a fight in progress.

Matthew Priore, an attorney for the City of Clifton, said the parties had been separated by the time police arrived, and that no weapons were involved. Officials said that no arrests were made. Priore declined to release the names of those involved, and did not specify if the incident was under investigation.

Clifton's computer-assisted dispatch report from that night lists Delgado's name alongside another Passaic firefighter, Brittani Rawls, and her father, Hershel Rawls III, a former Passaic police officer. …
